Christmas shoes

Christmas is a magical time of year, and you’d forgive us for spending our days daydreaming about fantastical sartorial pieces that we can only dream of affording and owning ourselves. One of the most decadent areas of fashion is footwear, with the most expensive shoes, created by luxury designers like Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo, running up to thousands of pounds. Whether they’re avant-garde party shoes, boots for stomping on ghastly winter weather or for giving you a luxurious bit of lift, a good pair of shoes can perfectly complement or contrast with your ensemble, making you look fabulous and fuelling your confidence. There’s no doubt that in a pair of these, we’d absolutely be stepping out to the various festive events taking place in party season with our best foot forward. 

 Fendi 

 Italian label Fendi has garnered a reputation for itself with regards to its fabulous footwear. Every season, eccentric but chic designs are showcased along with the rest of the collection, combining the best of contemporary style with Karl Lagerfeld’s inimitable signature polish. This season, Fendi saw wedged boots return to the runway for winter, made from faux fur and suede, and featuring a palate of rich autumnal colours. Although on the surface these boots look avant-garde and impractical (I wouldn’t want to wear such beautiful faux fur out in the winter rain) they look remarkably comfortable. The platform and wedge cushion your foot whilst the round toe style ensures that your feet aren’t pinched. I love the palate of purple, mossy green, cream and black in these boots; they can be seamlessly incorporated into a number of wintry looks, for example tapered trousers and a turtleneck jumper.

Roberto Cavalli 

Ankle boots certainly made a comeback in A/W 2015: gone, however, were the plain, sensible shoes of ankle boots past and in their stead are fun and luxurious alternatives. Roberto Cavalli, an Italian house known for exotic prints, dramatic, flowing chiffon dresses (shop at maryjanefashion.com) and glamazon models fronting their campaigns created ankle boots that were never going to be demure and unassuming. The crinkled leather of the boot in a rich oxblood hue, contrasts with the smooth black leather toe-cap to create a dynamic and modern boot. This is enhanced further by a chunky see-through Perspex heel that contains a subtle golden structural framework. These boots may not scream and shout like many of the colours used by Cavalli in previous collections, but these boots offer a modern twist on a classic style. We’d wear these sheer tights, a woollen miniskirt and a chunky knit. 

Burberry 

One of the boots of the season was the over-the-knee high heeled boot. These weren’t pantomime atrocities but clung closely to the legs of the models who wore them, effectively flattering and lengthening legs to new heights. Burberry’s suede boots were particularly desirable thanks to a stylish patchwork composition of different colours in navy blue, red, mossy green and brown. Whilst looking to earthy, rustic shades, these boots still pack a punch thanks to their long form and dramatic heel. Burberry have a penchant for taking the best of traditional heritage forms, hues and textures and working them in a modern and cool way. These boots do this perfectly without turning themselves into an avant-garde spectacle. If we had a pair, we’d be wearing them with a crisp white shirt, black skinny jeans and a roomy, knotted trench coat thrown over the top.
